The most known rallies and trial that occurred in Australia are the REDEX, AMPOL and MOBILGAS trial of the 1950s -1970s.
A WORD OF caution 99% OF REDEX/AMPOL/MOBILGAS TRAIL BADGES ADVERTISED FOR SALE ARE replicas. All made by an unscrupulous South Australian dealer. He originally used a spin cast production method, resulting in a thicker badge, however his later badges are almost perfect and difficult to tell from the extremely rare genuine versions.
Displayed on the same board are NRMA and RACQ Motorfest badges, The Red Mobilgas badge 6th row 3rd from left is a FAKE badge dated 1957 the unscrupulous dealer was so greedy he made a badge for that year copying a 1958 badge … idiot did not realise the in 1957 it was called a RALLY and 1958 it was called a TRIAL, also the badge was of a different design. The genuine badges are extremely rare only being issued to contestants who finished the grueling trials

BEWARE
This AMPOL badge is a FANTASY badge. These badges were manufactured by a greedy individual and sold off as a genuine 1950s badge, purely for the sake of making money. No such genuine badge was ever made, although radio personality, Jack Davies, did in fact own a service station in Queensland. The same individual also manufacture many lapel badges for a variety of products … they are all FANTASY or FAKES, some are shown on the Fakes and Fantasy page on this site.
