Some individual in an effort to make (dishonest) money have had badges made by overseas manufacturers. One dealer in particular has a range of well over 100 badges he sells at swap meets, on eBay, auction houses, and other media outlets. Some of these badges are outright copies ie: FAKES whilst many are based on original artwork used by various companies ie: FANTASY
Pictured below are some of the known badges. The Redex, Ampol and Mobilgas rally badges are extremely rare as they were only issued to contestants who finished the rallies. More badges have been sold on eBay than were originally even issued, many have passed through several hand and owners are not aware that they are fakes.
These are just a few samples of the fake badges for the National Rallies. It is almost 99% certain if you see any of these for sale that they are FAKES. It is difficult to distinguish the fakes from genuine I can usually tell from a good quality image (both front and back) of a badge. Please feel free to contact me if you require confirmation.
